Owl Spot inherited its name from the abundance of owl species that call the Dinokeng Game Reserve their home. These include the Barn Owl, Pearl Spotted Owl, Spotted Eagle Owl, African Grass Owl, Marsh Owl, Southern White-faced Owl, African Scops Owl, Giant Eagle Owl, Cape Eagle Owl, as well as the European Nightjar, Fiery-necked Nightjar, Rufous-cheeked Nightjar, Penant-Winged Nightjar, and the Freckled Nightjar.
As the sun sets and the sky darkens, the calls of these majestic creatures fill the air, adding to the serene and magical atmosphere of the night. Their haunting sounds echo through the wilderness, welcoming the moon as it takes its place in the starry sky above.
